This research aims to develop bee hive monitoring tools to help beekeepers with keeping their colonies healthy, and provide early warning when something goes wrong. We discuss the development of a portable doppler radar unit and three experiments conducted with the aim of showing its utility in monitoring colony health. The overall objective of this research is to develop a low-cost, low-power, light weight (swap) radar system for surveillance and detection of honey bee's activity at the colony entrance.
