Out of the ten sámi languages, nine are still spoken. Three of these are spoken in finland: North sámi, inari sámi and skolt sámi.
The sami are one of the world’s indigenous people with their own language, culture and lifestyle, with close connection to nature. The sami people live in four countries: Norway, sweden, finland, and russia. The total population in these four countries is estimated at approx. 80,000, of whom around half live in norway. We the sámi people want to advise visitors about how to act and how to behave when visiting our home. We, the sámi people, have occupied and lived in these areas for thousands of years.
