Most of traditional brahmins have a shikha (long tuft in english) at back of their head. Shikha is believed to posses great power and so it is touched to establish a power source inside it during nyasa process. Sanskrit word of sikha refers to a long tuft, or lock of hair left in the front, on top or on the back of the shaven head of a hindu male.
